Intercity aviation carbon emissions from Yangtze River Delta (YRD) related passenger flights, 2019–2023, drawn as a network across China. Each circle is a city; lines are the busiest routes by emissions. Choose a year and a lens: total emissions, hub role in the network, or the community a city belongs to. Click a city to trace its routes. Emissions are concentrated in a few hubs, carried by trunk routes, and structurally persistent through the COVID-19 shock of 2022.
Circle size scales with the chosen measure; a dark ring marks the 22 YRD airport cities. Lines are intercity routes, thicker for more route emissions. Hover for values; click a city to isolate its routes, click empty sea to reset.
Both series dip sharply in 2022 under COVID-19 controls and rebound to 2019 levels or above by 2023, while the ranking of hubs barely moves: the shock was temporary, the network structure was not.
